The elevation is the face of your home. These seven ideas show how a thoughtful mix of materials, light and proportion can make a façade modern and timeless.
Mix two or three materials, not ten
Combining plaster, timber-look cladding, stone or brick in measured amounts gives depth. Too many materials looks busy; a restrained palette looks confident.
Play with volumes and projections
Stepping a balcony forward or recessing a window creates shadow and rhythm. Simple changes in depth make a flat wall feel sculpted.
Add planting to the façade
Planters, green walls and terrace greenery soften hard lines and help cool the building. Plan irrigation and drainage in the design so they stay healthy.
Use screens for privacy and pattern
Louvres, jali panels and slatted screens protect privacy while letting air pass. They also give the elevation a distinctive texture.
Design the lighting with the façade
Concealed strip lights, wall washers and small wall lights highlight textures at night. Plan the points early so wiring stays hidden.
Get proportions right
Balanced window sizes, a clear entrance and consistent alignments matter more than expensive finishes. A well-proportioned façade always looks good.
Think about maintenance
Choose finishes that weather well and are easy to clean. A durable elevation protects your investment long after the paint would have faded.
